Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has projected the formation of two to three low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal during November, with one or two potentially intensifying into cyclones.
According to the long-range weather forecast for November, the country is likely to receive below-normal rainfall overall.
The forecast indicates a gradual drop in both day and night temperatures throughout the month, though temperatures may remain slightly above average. Light to moderate fog is expected from early morning hours in river basins and isolated regions, while water levels in major rivers are anticipated to maintain normal flow.
Division-wise rainfall projections for November indicate that the Dhaka division is expected to receive 15 to 25 mm of rain compared to its monthly normal of 26 mm, while Mymensingh and Rajshahi divisions are expected to receive 10 to 15 mm. Sylhet and Khulna divisions are projected to record 15 to 25 mm, Barishal division 30 to 40 mm, and Chattogram division the highest rainfall at 35 to 40 mm. The lowest rainfall is anticipated in Rangpur division at 4 to 8 mm.
The southwest monsoon officially withdrew from Bangladesh on October 9. Nationally, rainfall in October recorded a 68 per cent deficit compared to seasonal averages. October also saw two low-pressure systems in the Bay, one of which escalated into the severe cyclonic storm 'Arnab' before making landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast of India on October 28.
