Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken preventive measures to stop any incitement or illegal activities by the banned Awami League. Officers-in-charge (OCs) will be held accountable if any procession or activity by the banned party takes place in their areas.

DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed gave the directive at a monthly crime review meeting at DMP headquarters on Monday.

He ordered the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, Detective Branch (DB) and police stations to work together to prevent possible unrest. Measures include strict checks at Dhaka's entry points, tighter security at key locations and monitoring guests at residential hotels.

The commissioner said no activities by the banned Awami League or Bangladesh Chhatra League would be allowed.

“Any sudden procession or activity by a banned organisation will lead to action against the concerned deputy commissioner and OC,” he said.

An additional commissioner said police had been ordered to strengthen patrols and checkpoints and remain alert to prevent unrest and bring street crime under control.
