SK Sur’s Wife Jailed for 2 Years in ACC Case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced Suparna Sur Chowdhury, wife of former Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Sitangshu Kumar (SK) Sur, to two years in prison for failing to submit a statement of assets in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 Judge Md Robiul Islam also fined her Tk 1 lakh, in default of which she will serve an additional three months in jail.

Suparna, who was brought to court from jail, was sent back to prison after the verdict.

According to the case, the ACC had ordered her to submit details of her assets, liabilities and sources of income. She received the order and asset declaration form on October 27, 2024, but failed to submit the statement within the stipulated 21 working days.

ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain filed the case on December 23, 2024, under Section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.

The ACC submitted a charge sheet on June 29, 2025 and the court framed charges against Suparna on February 3, 2026. During the trial, five witnesses testified.
