Education minister urges students to gain AI, robotics skills

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan has urged young students to develop skills in artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology and modern technology to keep pace with the changing world.
He made the call as the chief guest at a freshers' reception and concert organised by the Jagannath University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Dal on Wednesday.
Around 2,000 registered freshers attended the event held on the field beside the university's Science Building. The freshers shared their expectations and experiences about starting university life. The organisers later distributed gifts and prizes among them.
The education minister said the importance of technical education, artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology and technology-based skills is increasing rapidly across the world.
He said effective links should be established between educational institutions and industries so that students can prepare for both academic and professional life.
University education should not be limited to learning academic subjects, he said. It should also focus on practical skills, innovation and employment opportunities.
He said Bangladesh's large young population is one of the country's most important human resources. With proper education and skills, young people can contribute to the country's socio-economic development and demonstrate their capabilities globally.
Addressing the freshers, Milan said they must build their own future through discipline, patriotism, talent and hard work.
He also urged them to take part in sports, debating, cultural activities and other extracurricular activities to develop diverse skills.
Madaris-3 MP Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon, Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rais Uddin, Treasurer Prof Dr Sabina Sharmeen, Dhaka University Faculty of Science Dean Prof Dr Md Mofazzal Hossain, Jahangirnagar University Bangla Department Professor Dr Shamima Sultana and Bangladesh Chhatra Dal central committee President Md Rakibul Islam Rakib attended the event as special guests.
Khokon assured the students that he would remain beside them on issues concerning their interests.
Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rais Uddin called on the education minister to turn the university into a full-fledged university.
He also urged the freshers to uphold the ideals of former president Ziaur Rahman.
The event was chaired by Jagannath University unit Chhatra Dal convener Mehedi Hasan Himel. Former and current leaders of the organisation, along with teachers and students from different departments, attended the programme.
Unit Chhatra Dal member secretary Shamsul Arifin moderated the event.
A concert was scheduled for the afternoon following the freshers' reception, featuring singers Zefar and Mousumi Mou and popular band Shironamhin.
