SINGRA, NATORE, Sept 16: The Singra Upazila Administration of the district on Monday afternoon removed three illegal fishing barriers from the Atrai River, restoring normal water flow and easing navigation.
The barriers were dismantled during an operation around 5 pm in the Kalinagar and Bildahar Bhatopara areas, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Rifat and Senior Fisheries Officer Shahadat Hossain.
Officials said influential groups had installed the structures at several points to catch fish, disrupting boat movement and water flow. No one was found at the site, but the illegal structures, valued at about Tk 6 lakh, were destroyed.
UNO Abdullah Al Rifat said authorities would continue to crack down on illegal fishing barriers that obstruct river navigation.
