Iran attacks US contracted ship in Hormuz

Iran launched a drone and missile attack on a US-contracted vessel near the strategic Strait of Hormuz earlier this week, leaving several crew members injured, Anadolu Agency reported on Wednesday (September 16), citing US media sources.

Two sources familiar with the incident told Fox News that four Iranian drones and at least one missile were used in the strike. One of the projectiles directly struck the ship in waters adjacent to the vital maritime corridor.

The resulting smoke from the blast caused physical injuries to several mariners, who are currently receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed country in the Gulf region. Multiple US personnel were present on board at the time of the attack.

This maritime escalation comes amid a broader six-month conflict involving Iran. Control over the Strait of Hormuz-a crucial chokepoint through which more than one-fifth of global oil shipments pass-remains a major flashpoint, marked by recurring mine-laying operations and retaliatory strikes.

US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees American military operations across the Middle East, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. 

Meanwhile, US Naval Forces Central Command directed all inquiries to CENTCOM. Neither

Washington nor Tehran has issued an official statement regarding the incident.
