Swiss Alps plane crash kills three

A light aircraft crashed in Switzerland’s Alpine region of Valais, killing all three people on board, authorities said.

The single-engine Cirrus SR22T crashed into a mountainside near the municipality of Leukerbad on Tuesday afternoon, after taking off from Lugano in the Ticino region, according to Valais regional police.

Emergency services and rescue specialists reached the crash site and found all three occupants dead. Two of the victims were British nationals.

Three helicopters and two rescue specialists were deployed following the crash.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Over the past decade, Switzerland has recorded nine aviation accidents in which three or more people were killed.
