Home minister orders faster implementation of security projects

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday instructed officials to eliminate delays in project implementation and complete ongoing infrastructure and security projects within their stipulated deadlines.

Chairing a review meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs, he said unnecessary delays in implementing projects are unacceptable, as they directly increase project costs.

The meeting reviewed ongoing and unapproved projects listed on the ‘Green Page’ of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for fiscal year 2026-27.

Salahuddin instructed officials to set specific, time-bound targets for every project and ensure completion within the stipulated period. He also called for the prompt preparation of Development Project Proposals (DPPs) for new and revised projects.

Regarding prison-related projects, the minister said security and access restrictions could sometimes affect the normal pace of work. However, he said such constraints should not delay general civil and infrastructure works.

He directed officials to complete all general infrastructure projects within their scheduled timeframes, including the headquarters of the Special Response Battalion (SRB).

The minister also stressed strict enforcement of narcotics control laws and effective measures to curb drug-related activities. He directed officials to quickly implement projects to form dog squads in every district, strengthen dope-testing facilities, renovate lock-ups and evidence storage rooms (malkhanas), and establish modern forensic and digital forensic facilities at the district level.

He further directed officials to follow a standard prototype design for transforming rural police stations into high-quality Model Police Stations.

The minister also called for an integrated project to expedite land acquisition in areas where law enforcement agencies face land shortages. The meeting also discussed coordinated measures to address shortages of logistics and vehicles for law enforcement agencies.
