Trump media ban would be 'illegal assault' on press freedom: CNN

WASHINGTON, Sept 19: CNN said Friday that President Donald Trump's plan to ban the TV network and two other news outlets from the White House was an "illegal assault" on US press freedom.

The network said its reporting was "fair and accurate" and was protected under the US Constitution, adding a ban "would be an illegal assault on that fundamental and constitutionally-protected right."

The ban follows the president’s decision last year to bar Associated Press reporters from the Oval Office, Air Force One and other events in retaliation for the news outlet’s decision not to follow his lead in changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico, which lies partially in Mexican and other waters, to the Gulf of America.
