Letter To the Editor
Dear Sir,

People in Naria Upazila of Shariatpur District have long suffered because of the incomplete bridge over the Kirtinasha River connecting Naria and Bhedarganj upazilas. Construction began in 2017 but remains unfinished, forcing residents to depend on trawlers to cross the river.

Hundreds of students use this route every day, often arriving late for classes and examinations while waiting for trawlers. The elderly, children and patients travelling for medical treatment also face serious difficulties. Passengers travelling to Dhaka and other destinations suffer throughout the day and night. More alarmingly, a passenger-laden trawler capsized in the river a few months ago because of strong currents and overcrowding, causing numerous injuries and extensive losses.

Given the continuing hardship and accident risks, the concerned authorities should intervene immediately, resume construction and make the bridge operational for traffic.
