Torrential rain since early Sunday caused widespread waterlogging across Dhaka, severely disrupting traffic and daily life. Low-lying areas including Paltan, Malibagh, Mouchak, Kakrail, New Market, Motijheel, Mugda, Khilgaon, Sabujbagh and Gulistan were inundated, with some roads becoming nearly impassable.

Rickshaws and other vehicles struggled through deep water, while several CNG auto-rickshaws and cars broke down after their engines were flooded. Commuters faced prolonged delays, higher fares and difficult walking conditions. Traders in affected commercial areas rushed to move goods to safer places.

Traffic police worked to manage congestion, but severe waterlogging made the task difficult. Dhaka South City Corporation said emergency teams were clearing drainage blockages and removing accumulated water.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department recorded 20mm of rain in Dhaka over the past 24 hours and forecast further rain or thundershowers in several parts of the country, including Dhaka. Officials warned that moderately heavy rain could occur in some areas.
