All 32 people onboard a Nigerian military aircraft were killed after it crashed in the country's southern Ondo State on Monday, President Bola Tinubu confirmed.
The deceased include 25 passengers and seven crew members. According to Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, the ATR-42 aircraft was executing a routine mission toward Nigeria's commercial hub, Lagos, when radar contact was lost around 9:00 AM local time.
The plane crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State, midway along its flight path from Edo State to Lagos. Wreckage from the aircraft was later located near a Nigerian naval base.
Following the crash, the Nigerian Air Force initiated search and recovery operations. Local witnesses near the crash site reported that the plane tore through trees upon impact, leaving debris and personal belongings scattered across the area as rescue teams navigated the location by boat.
