Deputy attorney general Belayet Hossain resigns

Deputy Attorney General Belayet Hossain resigned on Monday, citing personal reasons.

His resignation comes amid a series of departures from the Attorney General’s Office in recent weeks. Five state law officers resigned on Sept 7, citing professional and personal reasons, while Deputy Attorney General Sadia Afrin Shapla resigned on Sept 9.

The five officers who resigned on Sept 7 were Additional Attorney General Muhammad Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan, Deputy Attorneys General Sultana Akter Rubi and Mamun Chowdhury, and Assistant Attorneys General Rohani Siddiqua and Projjal Chakma.

Assistant Attorney General Md Nurul Karim also recently resigned after allegations of links to Awami League politics.

Earlier, 18 law officers, including seven deputy attorneys general and 11 assistant attorneys general, resigned on June 23. They said they were protesting the government's failure to implement the July Charter, establish a separate secretariat for the judiciary and retain the ordinance on appointing Supreme Court judges.
