Fuel price hike unavoidable, State Minister Amit apologises

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit stated on Monday (September 21) that the government had no alternative but to adjust fuel prices, expressing sincere regret for the burden placed on the public.

Speaking to journalists regarding the fuel price adjustment on Monday, the State Minister explained that ongoing instability in the Middle East has driven up international fuel prices continuously. He noted that insurance premiums and ship freight costs are rising daily as new dimensions of the global energy crisis emerge. He emphasized that the elected government was left with no choice but to adjust prices under these circumstances.

Amit remarked that the government had consistently maintained it would avoid taking such an unpopular decision unless entirely forced by circumstances.

He expressed that taking such a decision was extremely difficult, stating that as a political activist who entered politics to ease public suffering, he deeply understands the hardship citizens will face. He offered a sincere apology to the public for the inconvenience caused.

The State Minister expressed optimism that the ongoing crisis will pass quickly. He assured that once international conditions normalize, the government will make every effort to readjust fuel prices back to previous levels or even lower.
