DMP arrests 474 in 24-hour drive, files 47 cases

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 474 people and filed 47 cases during a 24-hour operation across the capital, police said on Tuesday.

Of the arrests, 35 were made in Ramna, 34 in Lalbagh, 63 in Wari, 74 in Motijheel, 102 in Tejgaon, 80 in Mirpur, 35 in Gulshan and 41 in Uttara. The Detective Branch arrested nine people, while the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested one.

Police recovered parts of an exploded cocktail, 30.2kg of cannabis, 7,701 yaba tablets and 62 bottles of Eskayf syrup during the drive.

They also recovered two motorcycles, two switchgears, two victims, Tk 6,610 in cash, a laptop and 13 mobile phones.

Besides, police seized 20,987 illegal SIM cards and 10 VoIP machines, including 18,077 Banglalink, 1,262 Robi, 700 Grameenphone, 150 Airtel and 798 other SIM cards.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division Niaz Mehedi said legal proceedings against the arrested individuals were underway.
