Netanyahu’s plane may avoid JFK amid concerns over Mamdani: Israeli media

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s official aircraft may avoid New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport during his upcoming US visit for the UN General Assembly, Israeli media reported.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth, Israel’s official state aircraft, Wing of Zion, is expected to land at a military base in New Jersey or Newark Liberty International Airport instead of JFK.

The newspaper cited difficulties in coordinating with US authorities and concerns that New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani could take steps to prevent the aircraft from remaining at the airport while Netanyahu is away.

Netanyahu has also reportedly decided to shorten his stay in New York and avoid spending the night there amid concerns over possible protests.

The Israeli newspaper further reported that Netanyahu had cancelled a planned stop in Texas to meet billionaire Elon Musk.

An Israeli source told the newspaper that difficulties in arranging the meeting may have led to its cancellation. The aircraft may have needed to make a refuelling stop, while US authorities may also have been reluctant to arrange the visit at short notice.

The reports come ahead of Netanyahu’s planned arrival in the United States on Thursday for the UN General Assembly.
