Police withdrawn after arrest of BCL leader in Naogaon

A Sub-Inspector (SI) of police has been withdrawn to the Police Lines following the arrest of a leader of the banned Chhatra League—who was wanted under a court-issued arrest warrant—in Badalgachhi, Naogaon.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) claims the action was taken against SI Asit Kumar because he allegedly allowed the accused to escape during an initial attempt to arrest him.
However, the incident has sparked various discussions locally.
The arrested individual, Rakibul Hasan, is a resident of Akkelpur village in Kola Union, Badalgachhi Upazila. Locally, he is known as the vice-president of the banned Upazila unit of Chhatra League. Police stated that there is an outstanding court arrest warrant against him in connection with CR Case No. 222/25.
Police sources report that Rakibul Hasan was arrested from his home in Akkelpur village early on the morning of September 10. SI Asit Kumar of Badalgachhi Police Station participated in the operation. An earlier attempt to arrest him had been made at Bhandarpur Bazar.
SI Asit Kumar explained that the operation was launched to apprehend Rakibul due to the existing arrest warrant. Although an attempt was made to catch him at Bhandarpur Bazar, he managed to flee on another motorcycle. He was subsequently arrested during a later night-time raid.
SI Asit Kumar acknowledged that there had been allegations of him releasing Rakibul in exchange for money after initially detaining him.
"An allegation was made that I released him after taking money," he said, though he did not know the specific identity of the accuser.
When asked about the reason for his withdrawal, he noted that while he was the one who arrested Rakibul, he was later reassigned to the Police Lines. He added that the Superintendent of Police had not spoken to him directly about the matter.
However, Rakibul’s mother, Rehena Parvin, stated that the police took her son away from their home; she did not know which SI had arrested him. When asked about the allegation made to the SP, she said she had not lodged any complaint regarding the matter anywhere.
Muhammad Ruhul Amin, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Badalgachhi Police Station, confirmed SI Asit Kumar's withdrawal. He stated that the order to withdraw the officer was issued after a complaint reached the Superintendent of Police alleging that he had initially detained the suspect but let him go. Later, that same Sub-Inspector (SI) arrested Rakibul.
Meanwhile, Naogaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Tarikul Islam stated that during the initial attempt to arrest Rakibul, he had been given the opportunity to escape; this is why SI Asit Kumar was withdrawn from his post.
The SP further explained that the officer was withdrawn because he allowed the suspect to flee during the first attempt, noting that the decision was unrelated to any local public discourse or criticism. In his view, the SI should have exercised greater caution while performing his duties.
However, no clear information is available regarding exactly what transpired at the time, how the suspect managed to escape, or the basis for the allegations that he was allowed to get away.
Meanwhile, the withdrawal of the police officer, after he had successfully arrested an accused individual subject to a court-issued arrest warrant, has raised questions among locals. Although the police maintain that administrative action was taken against the SI not for the arrest itself, but for allowing the suspect to escape during the initial operation.
