WB to help BD to address energy crisis: Khosru

The World Bank has agreed to support Bangladesh in addressing external economic shocks related to oil and gas supplies and supply-chain disruptions, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said following a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting was held on Tuesday morning (Sep 22) local time. Discussions focused on Bangladesh’s development priorities, economic progress, the WB’s support for various development projects and the energy crisis. 

Finance Minister said the WB has agreed to come forward with support to address external shocks related to the supply of oil and gas. Bangladesh will work with the WB to ensure that the country’s development activities are not disrupted by supply-chain problems, he added.

He said the meeting also discussed further strengthening the longstanding partnership between Bangladesh and the WB, including cooperation on development projects and opportunities to expand the partnership in future.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is participating in various programmes of the UNGA in New York.
