Ekramul murder: Indictment hearing deferred to Sunday

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has deferred the hearing on framing formal charges against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 10 others in a crimes against humanity case over the killing of Teknaf councillor Ekramul Haque.

The hearing has been rescheduled for September 27.

A two-member bench of the ICT-2, headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, set the new date on Thursday following a prosecution petition.

Prosecutor Zahirul Amin represented the prosecution at the hearing.

Zahirul Amin said the prosecution was scheduled to present its arguments on framing the formal charges on Thursday. However, the hearing was deferred because the tribunal did not have its full bench. The matter will now be heard on September 27.

Earlier in the morning, four accused, who are currently in custody,-- Cox’s Bazar-4 MP Abdur Rahman Bodi, Brig Gen Miftah Uddin Ahmed, Brig Gen Mahbub Alam and former RAB director general Col (retd) Anwar Latif Khan-- were produced before the tribunal.
