Viral audio gets former Cantonment Police Station OC Rakibul arrested

Md. Rakibul Hasan, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Cantonment Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), has been arrested in connection with a viral audio clip circulating on social media. Law enforcement agencies arrested him on Thursday (September 24) in a sedition case. He is expected to be produced before the court shortly.

Earlier, following the incident involving the viral audio, Rakibul Hasan was withdrawn from his post and attached to the Central Reserve Office of the Headquarters and Administration Division through an official order signed by the DMP Commissioner on September 17.

Recently, an audio clip featuring former Cantonment Police Station OC Rakibul Hasan went viral on social media. The recording captured a conversation regarding the potential return to the country of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after being ousted during the mass uprising of students and the public.

However, in a Facebook post addressing the matter, the former OC claimed that the viral audio had been fabricated using generative AI tools.
