BHANDARIA, PIROJPUR, Sept 24: State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor Sumon has called on journalists to publish a white paper on alleged corruption committed under what he described as the previous “fascist” regime in the area.
“We have to publish a white paper on the corruption committed by fascism in this area in the past,” he said while addressing a monthly law and order meeting at the Bhandaria Upazila Parishad auditorium in Pirojpur on Wednesday afternoon.
The state minister alleged that during the previous regime, a section of local elected representatives and influential people, in collusion with some dishonest government officials and employees, had committed widespread irregularities and corruption.
He called for an end to such practices and urged all concerned to ensure transparency, integrity and accountability in government activities.
He also urged officials and other stakeholders to perform their duties responsibly, saying greater accountability was needed to ensure good governance.
The meeting was chaired by Bhandaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Hasibul Hasan.
Among others, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ujjal Halder, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Ibrahim Mollah, Officer-in-Charge of Bhandaria Police Station Dewan Jaglul Hasan and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Jahangir Hossain spoke at the meeting.
Heads of various government offices in the upazila were also present.
After the law and order meeting, Bhandaria Upazila BNP brought out a protest procession against what it described as attempts to create instability across the country through planned violence.
Led by State Minister Sohel Monzoor, the procession started from the Upazila Parishad premises and paraded through key roads in the town.
