Nahid slams hiring process for pry school teachers 

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam criticised the government’s recruitment process for government primary school teachers, describing it as an “absolute farce” and questioning the transparency and accountability of intelligence agency verification.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday afternoon, Nahid alleged that the government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had turned the recruitment of primary school teachers, often considered a crucial avenue for educated unemployed youths, into a prolonged ordeal.

He wrote that the dreams of at least 1,000 talented candidates selected through the recruitment process had been shattered under the guise of intelligence verification. Despite demonstrating their merit through written and other stages of the examination, the candidates were allegedly kept in uncertainty and subjected to harassment for nearly eight months instead of being issued appointment letters.

Nahid raised questions over the legal and administrative basis of excluding the candidates, noting that the majority had no criminal cases or General Diaries (GDs) recorded against them at police stations. He also claimed that no evidence had been found linking them to previous criminal activities or terrorist organisations.

“Yet, allegations have arisen that they were excluded from recruitment without adherence to any transparent, clear or accountable process,” he wrote.

Nahid demanded the immediate appointment of every candidate against whom there are no specific and lawful allegations.

He also called for the government to make public the criteria and procedures used in the verification process, arguing that any exclusion from public employment must rest on clear, lawful and accountable grounds.
