Gas supply improves as LNG transfer resumes

Gas supply began recovering on Friday morning after falling sharply the previous day due to adverse weather that disrupted LNG transfer at the floating terminal in Moheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.

Petrobangla said LNG transfer from a cargo to the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) had resumed, helping restore gas supply.

The disruption on Thursday reduced overall gas availability and caused inconvenience to consumers, Petrobangla said in a brief message.

According to Petrobangla sources, daily gas demand is around 3.8 billion cubic feet (bcf). Supply had remained between 2.65 billion and 2.70 bcf for an extended period.

Supply stood at about 2.6 bcf on Wednesday. It fell to 2.2 bcf on Thursday evening, a drop of around 400 million cubic feet, reports Prothom Alo.

The situation improved on Friday as LNG transfer resumed.

At 10am, total gas supply stood at 2,341 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd). Domestic gas accounted for 1,603 mmcfd, while regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) contributed 738 mmcfd.

By 2pm, total supply had increased to 2,525 mmcfd, according to the latest Petrobangla data.

Of the total, domestic supply was 1,607 mmcfd, while RLNG supply rose to 918 mmcfd.

The improvement indicates that gas supply is gradually returning towards the levels maintained before the weather-related disruption.
