Rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour may lash Dhaka, Kushtia and Khulna regions.

Authorities have issued a cautionary signal for river ports in the areas.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued the warning in its inland river port forecast on Saturday.

According to the forecast, the warning will remain in effect from 5AM to 1PM on Saturday. River ports in the affected areas have been advised to display cautionary signal No. 1.

The weather department, in its 120-hour forecast, said a land depression over Odisha and adjoining northern Andhra Pradesh had weakened into a depression. It is likely to move north and northwest and weaken further.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon remains fairly active over Bangladesh and strong over the north Bay of Bengal, potentially triggering rain across various parts of the country.

For the 24 hours from 9AM Saturday, rain or thundershowers are likely in many places across Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions, while some areas of Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may also experience rainfall.

Some areas could see moderate to heavy rain during the period, according to the Met Office.
