Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque joins BRAC Bank Board as Independent Director

BRAC Bank PLC has welcomed economist Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque to its board as an independent director, bringing his experience in international trade, development, research and public policy to the bank's governance and strategic oversight.

BRAC Bank Chairperson Meheriar M Hasan said Razzaque's experience in research, development, education and policy-making would add valuable perspectives to the board as the bank continues its growth and transformation, according to the press release.

Welcoming Razzaque to the board, Hasan said, "As BRAC Bank enters an important phase of its growth and transformation, strong governance and informed strategic oversight remain critical."

"Dr Razzaque's extensive experience in research, development, education, and policymaking will bring valuable perspectives to our Board and help shape the Bank's strategic direction. We look forward to his guidance as we continue to strengthen governance and create sustainable long-term value for our stakeholders," he added.

Razzaque is an economist specialising in international trade, development and public policy, with extensive senior leadership and management experience in Bangladesh and abroad.

He currently serves as chairman of Research and Policy Integration for Development (Rapid), a Dhaka-based think tank.

He is also a director of the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh (PRI).

Razzaque held several senior positions at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London for many years, including head of International Trade Policy, where he led work on trade policy, research and global advocacy.

Before joining the Commonwealth Secretariat, he taught in the Department of Economics at the University of Dhaka.

He has led and managed numerous multi-country studies involving economies in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, the Caribbean and the Pacific.

Alongside his international work, he has maintained an extensive programme of research, policy analysis and capacity-building activities focused on Bangladesh.

Razzaque has also worked extensively with senior government officials across different countries.

On several occasions, he made technical presentations before the G20 Development Working Group.

He has also been invited to provide evidence before committees of both the House of Lords and the House of Commons of the UK Parliament.

Razzaque also serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka.

He holds a PhD from the University of Sussex in the UK and a Master of Social Science (MSS) in Economics from the University of Dhaka.

He has authored and co-authored several books, journal articles and policy papers on international trade, development and public policy.
