Six jailed over Mirpur clinic attack

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent six accused to jail in a case filed over an attack, vandalism and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1.

Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter passed the order after the investigation officer of Shah Ali Police Station produced the accused before the court and sought their detention.

The accused are Md Shahadat Hossain, Kazi Mokbul Hossain, Md Shah Alam, Md Atikur Rahman, Md Kamrul Islam and Md Shakil.

The defence sought bail for the accused, and the court fixed Monday to hear the petitions.

According to the case statement, a group armed with hammers, sticks and locally made weapons entered the centre around 12:05 AM on September 25. They allegedly beat and tied up two night guards before breaking into the premises with an excavator and demolishing several structures.

The attackers allegedly vandalised rooms, equipment and furniture and looted medicines, two ultrasonography machines, a generator, computers, printers, refrigerators, air conditioners and steel cupboards.

The complaint estimated the total damage and loss at around Tk 1.09 crore.

Dr Nasrin Akhter, executive director of the centre, filed the case with Shah Ali Police Station against Md Hanif Mia and 200-250 unidentified people.

Four other accused arrested in the same case were sent to jail by another Dhaka court on Saturday.
