Three journalists injured at Suhrawardy Udyan as DU students attack

Three journalists were injured after allegedly being attacked by students while covering a police anti-drug operation at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Sunday night.

The injured journalists were Zahirul Islam of Protidiner Bangladesh, Siam Hossain Gazi of Agamir Shomoy and contributor journalist Tofayel Ahmed. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

They were rescued in an injured condition and taken to the hospital’s emergency department at around 8:45 PM on Sunday (September 27). They are currently receiving treatment there.

Speaking at the hospital, Zahirul Islam said they were covering an anti-drug operation at Suhrawardy Udyan when students of Dhaka University allegedly attacked them, leaving all three journalists injured.

He said passers-by later rescued them and took them to the hospital.

Habibur Rahman, inspector and in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the three journalists reported that they had been attacked during the anti-drug operation at Suhrawardy Udyan.

They were brought to the emergency department in an injured condition and are currently undergoing treatment, he said.
