IGP orders stern action against criminals

Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir has directed police officials to take drug dealers, criminals and extortionists firmly under the law, saying political affiliation must not influence action against offenders.

“There is no scope to consider any political affiliation of a criminal, as a criminal’s only identity is that of a criminal,” he said.

The IGP gave the directive at the monthly crime review meeting for August 2026 at Police Headquarters on Tuesday. He also instructed field-level officers to take appropriate legal action against juvenile offenders.

Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md Sayedur Rahman chaired the meeting, attended virtually by metropolitan police commissioners, range DIGs and superintendents of police from different districts. DIG (Crime Management) Mohammad Abu Sufian and other officials were present at Police Headquarters.
