President calls for responsible use of AI

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for responsible and moderate use of artificial intelligence, warning that its uncontrolled use could weaken people’s thinking ability and creativity.

He made the remarks on Tuesday when a delegation led by Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammad Masud met him at Bangabhaban.

The president stressed the need to prevent AI from being used indiscriminately and said the technology should be utilised within reasonable limits and for public welfare.

During the meeting, the KUET vice-chancellor briefed the president on the university’s academic activities.

President Mirza Fakhrul also called for decentralising higher education so that advanced educational opportunities are not concentrated only in the capital. He urged universities to play a greater role in national research and development.

The vice-chancellor invited the president, who is also the university’s chancellor, to attend KUET’s upcoming convocation. The president accepted the invitation and assured him of his attendance.

The president’s military secretary, secretary and press secretary, along with several KUET professors, were present at the meeting.
