A Dhaka court on Thursday remanded three people, including Mizanur Rahman, son-in-law of Kushtia-2 MP Abdul Gafur, for three days in a case over an attack, vandalism and looting at a New Guinea Properties housing project in the capital.
Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam passed the order after hearing a five-day remand plea by Cantonment Police.
The other accused are Shahriar Mahmud and Md Shah Alam alias Anik.
According to the case statement, around 50 people allegedly entered the project in South Manikdi near ECB Square on September 26, opened fire and attacked employees with machetes, knives and sticks. Several people, including site engineer Md Parvez, were injured.
The attackers allegedly looted cash, laptops, computers, cables, cameras and professional media equipment and vandalised vehicles. The complaint put the company’s losses at Tk 1.43 crore and the value of stolen goods at Tk 1.50 crore. The attackers also allegedly vandalised content creator Salman Muqtadir’s “Brown Fish” studio.
Police said the attackers opened fire at officers arriving at the scene, prompting police to fire five shotgun rounds in self-defence. Three suspects were subsequently arrested, and locally made weapons and bullet casings were reportedly recovered.
Project official Saiful Islam Bhuiyan filed the case with Cantonment Police Station, naming 13 people and 150–200 unidentified persons as accused.
