The top five countries for AI-powered travel planning are led by China and India, where 44 percent and 42 percent of surveyed travellers respectively use artificial intelligence tools for travel inspiration, according to Booking.com’s 2026 Travel Trends survey.
The United Arab Emirates ranks third, with 35 percent of travellers using AI chat tools for travel inspiration, followed by Brazil at 21 percent. Australia and Japan share fifth place in the ranking, with 19 percent each.
1. China — 44%
China leads the ranking, with 44 percent of surveyed travellers using AI chat tools for travel inspiration. The technology can help users explore destinations, discover attractions and develop personalised holiday ideas.
2. India — 42%
India ranks second, with 42 percent of surveyed travellers turning to AI tools for travel inspiration. The findings highlight the growing role of artificial intelligence in helping travellers explore destinations and organise their trips.
3. United Arab Emirates — 35%
The UAE ranks third, with 35 percent of surveyed travellers using AI chat tools for travel inspiration. AI-assisted planning offers travellers another way to explore holiday options and discover experiences suited to their interests.
4. Brazil — 21%
Brazil ranks fourth, with 21 percent of surveyed travellers using AI tools for travel inspiration. The technology can help users research destinations and explore different holiday possibilities before making travel decisions.
5. Australia and Japan — 19% each
Australia and Japan share fifth place, with 19 percent of surveyed travellers in each country using AI tools for travel inspiration. AI-assisted services can support itinerary planning, destination research and the discovery of local attractions.
AI reshapes travel planning
Artificial intelligence is creating new ways for travellers to research destinations, explore activities and organise itineraries. AI chat tools can generate trip suggestions based on individual interests, helping users narrow down options before booking accommodation or transport.
However, the figures measure the use of AI chat tools for travel inspiration among surveyed travellers, rather than overall AI adoption or the quality of tourism services in each country. The findings nevertheless illustrate the growing role of AI in the early stages of holiday planning.
