Tourist ships will not resume services to Saint Martin’s Island on November 1 as planned, with administrative formalities expected to delay operations until November 3 or 4, ship owners said on Thursday (October 29).
The Bangladesh Tourism Board will, however, open its website on November 1 for tourist registration to visit the island.
Hossainul Islam Bahadur, general secretary of the Sea Cruise Operators Owners Association of Bangladesh (SCOAB), said three ships had received approval to operate on the route, while applications for seven more were pending. Although the approved vessels had obtained environmental clearance, some official procedures remained incomplete.
Bangladesh Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Barrister Mutasim Billah Farooqui said approval for ship operations was subject to compliance with government conditions aimed at protecting the island’s environment and ensuring tourist safety.
