MP Gazi Nazrul’s second wife’s death: Uncle remanded for 4 days

A Dhaka court on Thursday remanded Obaidur Rahman, maternal uncle of Gazi Nazrul Islam, MP for Satkhira-4, for four days in a case filed over the alleged abetment of the suicide of the MP’s second wife, Mariam.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain passed the order after the investigating officer sought five days remand.

During the hearing, the prosecution argued that Obaidur needed to be interrogated to determine whether Mariam actually died by suicide or was killed.

The defence sought cancellation of the remand and bail.

The court passed the order after hearing both sides. Obaidur was sent to jail on Wednesday before being brought back to court for the remand hearing.
