UGC suspends all USET academic activities

University Grants Commission (UGC) has ordered the suspension of all admission and academic activities at the University of Skill Enrichment and Technology (USET), citing the operation of an unauthorised campus, domain-related complications, proven allegations of certificate trading and the expiry of its temporary approval.

The commission issued a public notice on September 29 announcing the decision. The notice was signed by the director of the UGC's Private University Management Division.

UGC member Prof Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun confirmed the decision.

According to the notice, USET was granted temporary permission by the government on August 28, 2019, to establish and operate a temporary campus for seven years at Samad Banu Tower, Plot Nos 298-299, Khorda Ghoshpara, Siddhirganj, Narayanganj.

The UGC subsequently allowed the university to conduct academic activities subject to certain conditions on February 19, 2020.
However, the commission said the university is currently not conducting any activities at the government- and UGC-approved address.

Under the Private University Act, 2010, a private university cannot conduct academic or administrative activities at any address or building without prior approval from the Ministry of Education and the UGC.

In view of these issues, the UGC ordered the suspension of all admission and academic activities at USET under the same Act.

The commission said further instructions regarding students currently enrolled in USET's ongoing programmes would be issued soon in accordance with Section 12(2) of the Private University Act, 2010.
