GAZA, Oct 1: More than 10,000 Israeli settlers have stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem since the start of the Jewish holiday Sukkot last Saturday, the Jerusalem governorate has told Al Jazeera.

Israel has, meanwhile, issued more than 80 orders to ban local residents from the mosque complex over the last three months, the governorate added.

As we’ve been reporting, a large number of settlers stormed the mosque this morning, following mass raids over the past few days.

Hundreds of Israeli settlers have descended upon a Christian holy site in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Wafa news agency reports.

Israeli military vehicles entered eastern Nablus, forcing residents near Joseph’s Tomb to evacuate and turning the area into a military outpost as they deployed snipers atop residential homes.

Settlers, meanwhile, performed Talmudic rituals at the site, a gravesite believed to be the burial place of Joseph, the father of Jesus.

Israeli settlers are again storming Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem, Wafa reports, marking the sixth day of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

Under protection from Israeli police, “large numbers” of settlers entered the compound and performed Jewish religious rituals in its courtyards, the Palestinian news agency said.

The latest raid comes after about 700 Israelis, including former lawmaker Moshe Feiglin, stormed the compound on Wednesday, and nearly 1,000 did so on Tuesday.

Jews are allowed to visit the site " which is Islam’s third holiest " but may not pray or engage in rituals there.
Around 10,000 Israeli settlers performed religious rituals at the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron on Tuesday, joined by rabbis Shmuel Eliyahu and Yitzhak Schwartz and Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. In Jerusalem, hundreds of settlers entered Al-Aqsa Mosque through the Moroccan Gate under heavy protection from Israeli forces. They performed Jewish rituals and prayers, while also singing collectively and applauding.

The Jerusalem Governorate said the incursions took place on the fourth day of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, noting that the settlers carried out their rituals in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa under Israeli police protection.

The governorate said settlers assaulted and dragged Palestinians in the Bab al-Amud area and posted footage documenting the attacks on social media.

The incursions coincided with tightened Israeli military measures around Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City, including restrictions on worshippers’ access and movement.

September has witnessed repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, the latest taking place on Monday, involving 1,731 settlers.

According to figures from the Jerusalem Governorate, more than 40,661 settlers have entered Al-Aqsa Mosque since the beginning of the year through the end of August 2026. The number of orders barring Jerusalem residents from entering the mosque has reached around 800 since the start of the year through early September.

Large numbers of settlers entered the town of Beitunia and the Jiryut Roundabout west of Ramallah on Tuesday under the protection of Israeli forces. They attacked passing vehicles and threw stones at some of them."AGENCIES
