A criminal case has been filed against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman at Airport Police Station for obstructing public servants, causing chaos, and assault at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Security Officer Md Shahriar Alam Sojib filed the case on Friday (October 2). Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamrul Hasan Talukdar confirmed the filing, stating that police are investigating the charges of obstructing official duties.
Regarding a potential arrest, the OC noted that police will take appropriate action following proper investigation.
According to the case statement, passengers on a flight from Madinah (BG-338) grew frustrated over baggage delays caused by heavy passenger flow on Thursday. When Airport Executive Director Group Captain S.M. Rageeb Samad arrived to manage the situation, Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman verbally abused him, threatened physical violence, and made obscene remarks about the Civil Aviation Minister.
The complaint further alleged that when security supervisor Warrant Officer Mohammad Kamal Uddin attempted to stop Akhtaruzzaman's companions from video recording inside a restricted area, Akhtaruzzaman verbally and physically assaulted him.
Additionally, he reportedly threw away passengers' Zamzam water bottles and acted aggressively toward Biman Bangladesh representatives.
Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman was previously expelled from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) multiple times for breaking party discipline before joining Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on December 13, 2025.
