Sri Lanka set Bangladesh a target of 166 runs in the bronze medal match after scoring 165 for nine in their allotted 20 overs at Korogi Athletic Park in Nagoya on Saturday.
Bangladesh, who lost the toss, were asked to bowl first. Their spinners made an early impact as Sri Lanka lost four wickets within the first four overs.
Mystery spinner Aliss Al Islam impressed in his first spell, taking one wicket for just seven runs in three overs. He bowled 12 dot balls out of 18 deliveries.
Sheikh Mahedi Hasan was Bangladesh’s most successful bowler, taking two wickets for 19 runs in his four overs.
Sri Lanka remained under pressure until the 13th over before launching an attack in the latter stages. Mustafizur Rahman conceded 25 runs in his first over, including two boundaries from the opening two deliveries. He later recovered to take two wickets and concede just seven runs in his third over.
Sri Lanka scored 83 runs between the 13th and 18th overs to reach 147 for five.
Mustafizur dismissed half-centurion Tharindu Ratnayake in his third over, while Saif Hasan took two wickets in the final over as Sri Lanka finished on 165 for nine.
