At least 67 people were rescued after a fire broke out at an eight-storey garment factory in Gazipur’s Degerchala area on Saturday (Saturday 3) afternoon.
The fire originated on the third floor of Metrix Style Garments near Fakir Market at around 2:44PM. Three units from Gazipur Chowrasta Modern Fire Station reached the scene within minutes and began firefighting and rescue operations. As the fire intensified, six more units from Konabari, Gazipur and Rajendrapur fire stations joined the operation, bringing the total to nine units.

Anwarul Islam, an official of the Fire Service and Civil Defence central media cell, said 67 people had been rescued from different parts of the building by 4:15PM. No casualties had been reported so far, he said.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage were not immediately known. Fire Service officials said details would be available after the fire was brought fully under control.
