90kg of cannabis found hidden in pickup truck

A 90kg consignment of cannabis was recovered from a specially built hidden compartment of a pickup truck in Barishal, and a 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the seizure.

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested Md Ruhul Howlader from the Rasulpur Borofkol area of the city around 1:30 AM on Friday (October 2). The pickup was also seized.

DNC Deputy Director Mohammad Khorshed Alam disclosed the information at a press briefing in Barishal on Saturday.

He said the cannabis was packed in 30 polythene packets wrapped with scotch tape and concealed inside the pickup's secret compartment.

Two other suspected drug dealers, identified as Md Siraj Mia and Md Palash Howlader, fled during the operation. Police are conducting a drive to arrest them.

According to the DNC, the consignment was brought from Cumilla to Barishal for distribution across different districts of the division. A case is being prepared against Ruhul under the relevant law.
