Fire destroys five jute warehouses in Gopalganj 

GOPALGANJ, Oct 3: A fire destroyed five jute warehouses at Batikamari Bazar in Muksudpur Upazila of the district on Friday night, with traders estimating losses at more than Tk 10 lakh.

Muksudpur Fire Service Station Officer Md Mehedi Hasan said the fire broke out while welding work was underway on the shutter of a warehouse owned by Ebadat Matubbar. 

Sparks fell on the jute and ignited it, quickly spreading to four nearby warehouses owned by Kibria Mia, Munnu Sheikh, Faruk Sheikh and Nazrul Fakir.

Two units from Muksudpur Fire Service and one from Bhanga Fire Service, assisted by local residents, brought the blaze under control after about an hour.

The affected traders said their jute stocks were completely destroyed and estimated their combined losses at about Tk 10 lakh.
