Business Desk: Bangladesh’s stock market suffered a sharp fall on Sunday, with major indices on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) declining amid widespread selling, while turnover also fell on the DSE.
On the DSE, prices of 291 companies fell against 66 that gained, while 25 remained unchanged. The DSE broad index, DSEX, dropped 49 points to 5,482. The DSE-30 index fell 18 points to 2,085, while the DSES index declined 10 points to 1,089.
DSE turnover stood at Tk542.98 crore, down Tk180.13 crore from Tk723.11 crore in the previous trading session. Saiham Textile led turnover with shares worth Tk18.77 crore changing hands, followed by Paramount Textile at Tk14.87 crore and Malek Spinning at Tk13.60 crore.
The CSE also witnessed a broad decline, with 114 of the 171 traded issues falling, while 40 advanced and 17 remained unchanged. The CASPI index fell 171 points, while turnover stood at Tk13.32 crore, compared with Tk15.77 crore in the previous session.
