A Bangladeshi migrant worker from Sherpur was killed in a motorcycle accident while travelling to work in Malaysia on Tuesday (October 6).

The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam, son of Abdur Rahim of Fatiamari Puratanpara in Sherpur Sadar upazila. He was working at a palm plantation in Malaysia.

According to his family and locals, Saiful was riding his motorcycle to work around 3:00 AM local time when he met with an accident in Kedah district.

Saiful reportedly suffered a severe injury to his throat from a sharp fruit-cutting tool carried on the motorcycle and died at the scene, according to family members cited by local UP member Yusuf Mia.

Saiful's family has sought assistance from the government and the Bangladesh mission in Malaysia to bring his body back to Bangladesh and arrange his burial.

Sherpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Asma Binte Rafiq said, "appropriate steps would be taken to facilitate repatriation if the family submits an application."
