The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved separate cases against former Sirajganj-1 MP Tanvir Shakil Joy, former Barishal-2 MP Md Shahe Alam and his wife Atia Alam Mili over alleged concealed assets, wealth beyond known sources of income and abuse of power.
ACC Deputy Director Aktarul Islam briefed reporters on the decisions on Tuesday.
According to the ACC, Joy possesses movable and immovable assets worth Tk 5,65,82,786, against liabilities of Tk 1,03,16,880, leaving net assets of Tk 4,62,65,906.
His income tax records showed admissible income of Tk 4,25,62,232, while his expenditure stood at Tk 2,45,80,575, leaving net income after expenditure of Tk 1,79,81,657. The ACC found a discrepancy of Tk 2,82,84,249 between his net assets and net income after expenditure, which it identified as wealth allegedly acquired beyond his known sources of income.
The commission approved the case against Joy under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
In the case involving Shahe Alam and Mili, the ACC found that Mili declared assets worth Tk 56,88,222 in her statement submitted on April 30, 2025. Verification found assets worth Tk 68,93,042, indicating concealment of Tk 12,04,820.
The ACC also found net income or savings of Tk 64,79,250 in Mili’s income tax returns without a legitimate source, which it deemed disproportionate to her known sources of income.
The commission alleged that Mili acquired and held the assets in collusion with her husband to legitimise assets allegedly acquired by him through illegal means.
It approved a case against Mili under Sections 26(2) and 27(1) of the ACC Act, 2004, and against Shahe Alam under Section 27(1) of the Act and Section 109 of the Penal Code.
