Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has said the DMP will remain on the highest alert to ensure tight security at every Durga Puja venue in the capital during the Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations.

He said that alongside uniformed police, plainclothes officers, SWAT, the Crisis Response Team, Quick Response Team, crime scene vans and bomb disposal units would remain ready round the clock.

The DMP commissioner made the remarks at a meeting on security, law and order and traffic management for the Durga Puja celebrations at the DMP headquarters conference room on Tuesday.

Sharadiya Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, is going to be held under the current democratic government. “So this year’s festival is a test for us,” he said, adding that the DMP would perform its duties with the highest level of vigilance to ensure peaceful celebrations at every puja venue in Dhaka.

He further said that comprehensive security measures had been taken for Mahalaya, the Durga Puja celebrations and the immersion of idols. Every puja venue would be brought under CCTV surveillance, while venue in-charges would perform their duties wearing body cameras.
