Covered van driver killed on Dhaka-Aricha highway crash

A covered van driver was killed in a head-on collision with a bus on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Dhamrai, Dhaka, on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abubakar Siddique, 26, from Netrakona.

The accident occurred in the Srirampur area when a Dhaka-bound staff bus of AKH Eco Apparels collided with an Aricha-bound covered van coming from the opposite direction, according to police and Fire Service sources.

The covered van was badly damaged and its driver died on the spot. Fire Service and highway police personnel recovered the body from the scene.

Traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time after the accident but returned to normal after the vehicles were removed.

Mohammad Zainul, an assistant sub-inspector of Golra Highway Police Station, said police visited the scene and recovered the body.

He said efforts were underway to arrest the bus driver.
