Observer Online Report

West Indies defeated India by six wickets after captain Shai Hope scored a century to help the visitors complete a record chase of 250 runs in the second T20I in Ranchi.

India posted 249 for five after being put in to bat, but West Indies chased down the target with nine balls to spare, levelling the series.

Hope scored an unbeaten 102 off 45 balls, hitting six fours and nine sixes, while Sherfane Rutherford smashed 84 off 37 deliveries, including seven fours and seven sixes.

The pair added 120 runs off 54 balls for the fourth wicket before Rutherford was dismissed. Hope then combined with Romario Shepherd, who scored 34 off just 13 balls, as West Indies moved closer to victory.

Their chase of 250 was the second-highest successful run chase in men’s international T20 cricket. South Africa hold the record after chasing 258 against West Indies. The two teams also scored a combined 517 runs in that match.

Earlier, Sanju Samson top-scored for India with 82 off 41 balls, striking nine fours and four sixes. Ishan Kishan contributed 43 off 22 deliveries, while captain Shreyas Iyer made 40 off 18 balls and Tilak Varma added 44 off 18.

Roston Chase led the West Indies bowling attack with three wickets for 24 runs, while Mayank Yadav took three wickets for India.

Hope was named Player of the Match for his match-winning century.
