Observer Online Report

Bangladesh’s Under-19 cricket team’s tour of Oman for a five-match one-day series against Afghanistan has been postponed due to visa complications and pending government approvals.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the postponement in a press release on Saturday, October 10, saying the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the tour’s organiser, had yet to secure all the necessary approvals from the relevant Omani authorities to stage the series.

The BCB said the visa process began in early September and was being coordinated by the ACB. As a result, visa issuance was beyond the BCB’s direct control.

The board said preparations were continuing and the players were ready to travel. The team will leave Dhaka for Oman as soon as the visas are issued through the ACB.

The bilateral series was arranged to help Bangladesh’s young cricketers adapt to conditions ahead of the Under-19 Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Oman in November.

The BCB has already announced a 15-member squad under head coach Hannan Sarkar, with Farid Hasan Faisal named captain.

According to the original schedule, the team was due to leave for Oman on Saturday, with the opening match set for October 13 at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground. The remaining four matches were scheduled for October 15, 18, 20 and 23.

The delay in the team’s departure could lead to changes in the original match schedule.

Bangladesh U-19 squad: Farid Hasan Faisal (captain), Abdullah Al Muhi, Ahsan Al Mumin, Al Amin Hossain Roni, Al Rafi, Farhan Sadik, Kawsar Ahmed, Al Amin Hossain, Shakil Khan, Meherab Hasan Sijan, Rakibul Hasan, Rabiul Hasan Anik, Rubai Islam Rizon, Sheikh Atikur Rahman Akash and Sheikh Zarif Siam.
