At least 5,000 sacks of wheat marked “For the Directorate General of Food” have been found in a warehouse of Kishwan, an associate concern of Bonoful Group, in Chattogram. The warehouse reportedly belongs to M A Motaleb, president of the Chattogram South District Awami League, former lawmaker and managing director of Bonoful Group.
The discovery has raised questions about how the wheat reached the warehouse, where it was sourced and whether it was delivered to its designated destination. Police are investigating the matter.
According to police sources, the warehouse authorities have presented documents claiming that the wheat was purchased through various auctions. However, the authenticity of the documents and the source of the wheat are being verified.
Investigators are examining whether the wheat is part of government food reserves or was legally purchased through auctions. Further details are expected after the relevant authorities complete their verification.
The discovery of a large quantity of wheat bearing markings indicating that it was intended for the Directorate General of Food has drawn local attention. The investigation is expected to clarify questions about the wheat’s origin, ownership and the legality of its storage.
