Around 1,200 tourists stranded in Sajek Valley left safely under a special security escort on Sunday (October 11), despite an indefinite road blockade enforced on the Dighinala-Sajek highway in Khagrachhari.
While stranded visitors departed the popular hill resort, nearly 1,000 new tourists entered Sajek across the day, creating a mixed scenario in the tourist hub.
According to local sources, authority officials arranged the special security convoy to safely transport the stranded tourists toward Khagrachhari after regular vehicular movement was disrupted by the blockade starting Sunday morning.
Simultaneously, over a hundred vehicles, including 58 local "Chander Gari" (open-top jeeps), managed to enter Sajek carrying around 1,000 fresh visitors.
Motijoy Tripura, Joint General Secretary of the Sajek Resort Owners' Association, confirmed that instead of the regular schedule, a special security escort left Sajek with departing tourists at 2:30 PM, while around 1,000 incoming visitors headed toward the valley.
Sajek Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tofazzal Hossain stated that tourist vehicles departed Sajek for Khagrachhari under law enforcement surveillance, adding that blockade supporters were stationed near the Gangaram Bazar area while security forces remained on high alert to prevent untoward incidents.
