Hundreds of garment workers blocked a road in Azampur, Uttara, in the capital on Monday morning, bringing traffic on one side of the road to a complete standstill and causing severe congestion in surrounding areas.

The workers from several garment factories gathered around 11:00am on October 12 to protest and demand higher wages. They later took to the streets, obstructing traffic and disrupting movement in the area.

KHM Ershad, additional deputy commissioner of police for the Dakshinkhan area, confirmed the road blockade, saying workers from several garment factories in Dakshinkhan had gathered and staged a protest.

Police have been deployed in the area following the incident.

The blockade has caused significant traffic disruption in and around Azampur, affecting commuters travelling through the busy Uttara area.
